Ingram Micro confirms ransomware attack

California-based company Ingram Micro, headquartered in Irvine, California, has reported the discovery of ransomware in its internal systems. According to a press release, the attackers caused a disruption in part of the digital infrastructure, which affected the ability to process and deliver orders. In response, the company disabled several of its website systems to protect its entire infrastructure.
According to Bleeping Computer, the attack was carried out by the Safepay group, which on July 3 blocked access to Ingram Micro's website and its online order systems.
ITPro reports that the breach affected regions across Europe, the U.S. and Asia, negatively impacting the company's logistics operations. Ingram Micro stated that an investigation is underway with the involvement of cybersecurity experts. The attackers gained access through the company's GlobalProtect VPN platform and obtained sensitive data, including financial information, accounting records, client files, banking details, and legal claims.
This incident demonstrates that any company can be vulnerable to modern hacking techniques. Attackers target businesses of all sizes – regardless of industry or geography. In the face of constant cyber threats, regular audits of information security systems are becoming a necessary practice for anyone working with digital data.
