Microsoft enables email bombing protection

Microsoft has introduced a new security feature in Defender for Office 365 that automatically blocks email bombing attempts. This is a cyber threat where attackers flood the victim’s mailbox with thousands of messages, usually subscriptions to newsletters or mass spam.
The goal of such attacks is to hide important messages or create chaos in the inbox so that the user does not notice fraudulent actions.
Thanks to the new “Mail Bombing detection” mechanism, suspicious messages will be filtered directly into the “Spam” folder. Most importantly, users do not need to configure anything: protection is activated automatically and applies to all Office 365 accounts.
Microsoft explained that the new system operates at the Defender level, using algorithms capable of recognizing mass subscriptions and unusual mailing patterns. This reduces the risk that a user will lose access to important emails or become a victim of scammers posing as support services.
Cybersecurity experts emphasize that the new tool can become critically important for companies working with large volumes of correspondence, since email bombing is often used as the first stage of more complex attacks.
